A female suicide bomber from the terrorist group carried out an attack at Mogadishu Mayor's office last month that led to the deaths of around a dozen people. It was reported that the group intended to target newly-appointed United Nations envoy James Swan who met the Mayor of Mogadishu earlier that day.
The UN envoy paid a courtesy visit to the mayor and his team to take an overview of the progress and challenges in the Mogadishu/Banadir region, ranging from development to displacement.
The mayor, Abdirahman Omar Osman, and his deputy were rushed to a hospital with critical wounds. Abdirahman Omar Osman was later taken to the Qatari capital Doha for the treatment of his injuries where he died.
