Lockdown lifted at Sun Valley High School in Union County

The lockdown has been lifted at the Sun Valley High School in Indian Trail in Union County. The school was put in lockdown mode after a student was spotted with a long gun.

According to a tweet on the Union County Sheriff's Twitter account, the school went on lockdown after a student drove through drop off area and principal observed long gun in truck. The student drove away at a high rate of speed.

According to a statement by the officials from the Union County Sheriff's office, the deputies continue the search for the student who had a weapon in a vehicle.

The statement further said that the authorities are confident that he has left the area. The school is safe.

The school said that all students are safe and transitioning to class at this time.

The school's twitter account earlier said the school was put under lockdown "due to an activity in the neighborhood", adding that all students were safe and located in locked classrooms.

DUE TO ACTIVITY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD, SVHS IS CURRENTLY IN LOCKDOWN MODE. ALL STUDENTS ARE SAFE AND LOCATED IN LOCKED CLASSROOMS.
