The Tibetan spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, will journey to the United States this month to seek treatment for his knees, according to an announcement from his office on Monday.

Tseten Samdup Chhoekyapa, the Dalai Lama's secretary, stated that all engagements, including public audiences, are suspended from June 20 onwards until further notice.

'His Holiness, the Dalai Lama is set to travel to the United States for medical treatment of his knees. Once he returns to Dharamsala, regular engagements will resume,' the statement added. The Dalai Lama, now 88, has resided in exile in India since fleeing Tibet in 1959.
