Himachal Pradesh's Hamirpur district is grappling with a resurgence of diarrhoea, with over 200 residents across 12 villages falling ill within a week, officials stated on Monday.
This outbreak follows a similar incident in March, which affected more than 400 people, taking the administration 10 days to control.
The state's health department has mobilized teams to the impacted villages, situated within Lambloo, Chamned, Gasota, Bafrin, and Pandher gram panchayats. On Monday, 44 new cases emerged, of which four were hospitalized while the rest were treated at home, confirmed Chief Medical Officer Dr. R K Agnihotri.
The initial case appeared on Friday, with numbers continuously rising since then. Lambloo and Chamned panchayats reported 120 patients.
In response, the CMO has advised locals to consume only boiled water and avoid stale food and overripe fruits, asserting that the situation is under control with necessary facilities available at people's doorsteps.
The health department, along with Jal Shakti Vibhag, has begun collecting water samples from the affected zones for testing.
Earlier this year, a similar outbreak in the Rangas area of Nadaun affected about 1,000 people in January and returned in June, affecting 10 panchayats near Hamirpur town.
