The Indian Cancer Genome Atlas (ICGA) has unveiled India's first comprehensive cancer multi-omics data portal, aimed at transforming cancer research and treatment in India. The platform provides open access to clinically correlated data from Indian cancer patients, helping to develop personalized treatment protocols.
Historically, cancer treatments in India relied on Western data sets. However, molecular differences in Indian cancer patients necessitate specific datasets for more effective treatments. ICGA's new portal makes such datasets accessible, marking a monumental step in the evolution of cancer research in the country.
The portal, anchored on the cBioPortal platform, offers DNA, RNA, and protein profiles of breast cancer patients integrated with clinical outcomes. Initially comprising data from 50 patients, it aims to expand to 500 within a year. The data is freely accessible under India's PRIDE guidelines to encourage ethical sharing and collaboration in cancer research.
