In a tragic turn of events, two medical students from ASRAM College in Eluru drowned in a swollen stream at Jalatharangini waterfalls in the Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district. Police and NDRF teams are continuing their search for a third missing student.
The incident took place around 4 pm on Sunday, after sudden heavy rainfall caused the stream to swell, sweeping away five students who were part of a larger group on a fun trip to the scenic Eastern Ghats destination of Maredumilli. Although two of the swept-away students were quickly rescued by police and forest officials, the bodies of two female students were found the following morning.
ASR district superintendent of police Amit Bardar confirmed the tragic discovery and ongoing search efforts. Authorities have initiated a drowning case as investigations continue.
