In a significant health sector development, the Delhi government is poised to sign a memorandum of understanding with the National Health Authority to roll out the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana in the national capital. The implementation was approved at the Delhi Cabinet's first meeting.

This health insurance scheme promises a substantial Rs 10 lakh cover for beneficiaries, jointly financed by both the Centre and the Delhi government. Delhi's recently inaugurated Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta, emphasized that after a prolonged stall by the previous administration, the scheme is now set in motion, aligning with the national implementation led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Preparations are underway, including training field-level workers and other relevant staff in IT, medical, and finance sectors. Sixty-six hospitals in Delhi, including private institutions, are currently empanelled under the scheme. With the full beneficiary list pending from the Delhi government, the Central government estimates covering 6.54 lakh families, with further efforts to expand hospital partnerships and grievance mechanisms ongoing.
