Early Morning Workouts: A Step Toward Healthier Hearts
A recent study outlines the cardiovascular benefits of staying on GLP-1 diabetes drugs, highlighting the risks of discontinuation. Furthermore, research on physical activity suggests early morning exercise can significantly reduce cardiometabolic risks. It tracks 14,000 Fitbit users, proving morning activity's positive impact on coronary artery disease, hypertension, and cholesterol.
Research indicates that consistent use of GLP-1 diabetic drugs significantly lowers the risk of heart-related issues, but halting the medication could rapidly reverse the gains, according to Dr. Ziyad Al-Aly. This insight emerged from a study involving over 333,000 veterans.
Continuous usage of GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Trulicity reduced cardiovascular risks by 18% compared to sulfonylureas. However, stopping the medication for six months increased the risk by 4% and by 22% after two years without treatment.
Meanwhile, a major study on exercise, using data from 14,000 Fitbit users, found that morning workouts between 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. significantly reduced the odds of cardiometabolic problems, presenting an additional strategy for improving heart health.
