Vice President C P Radhakrishnan has underscored the necessity for enhanced coordination among cancer treatment institutions nationwide, advocating for better knowledge and technology sharing to improve patient care. Speaking at the 23rd Cancer Survivors' Day organized by Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, he highlighted the significance of extending advancements to both public and private healthcare sectors.
The Vice President referenced data from the Indian Council of Medical Research, noting over 15 lakh annual cancer cases in the country. He emphasized government initiatives focusing on prevention, early detection, and accessible treatment under the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, with over 68 lakh treatments conducted.
Radhakrishnan stressed the importance of public awareness on cancer prevention, praising HPV vaccination efforts and highlighting the role of lifestyle choices in cancer risk reduction. He celebrated cancer survivors as 'warriors' and acknowledged support from medical professionals, urging collective action for early detection and timely care.
