Arya, a 26-year-old nurse from Alappuzha, died on Friday due to suspected amoebic meningoencephalitis. The illness, also known as brain fever, took her life at the Government Medical College Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, as informed by health department officials.

Initially admitted to a hospital in Alappuzha, Arya's condition necessitated a move to an advanced facility in Thiruvananthapuram last month following worsening symptoms. Despite efforts for advanced care, she passed away as her condition deteriorated further on Thursday night.

The tragic death of Arya comes amidst warnings from health authorities about potential outbreaks of amoebic meningoencephalitis due to current climatic conditions, after a short lull in reported cases. The disease is linked to microorganisms like Naegleria fowleri found in contaminated water.
