Mystery Ailment on French Cruise Triggers Safety Measures
A cruise ship in Bordeaux has been quarantined after reports of gastroenteritis among passengers. Authorities emphasize no link with a recent hantavirus cluster on another ship. The ship operator has enacted enhanced sanitation protocols, while passengers await test results to disembark safely.
Amid concerns of a health scare, local authorities in Bordeaux have halted the disembarkation of passengers from a cruise ship after several cases of gastroenteritis were suspected on board.
Officials clarified there is no connection between the illness and a separate hantavirus cluster on another vessel operating internationally. Tragically, a 92-year-old passenger died of cardiac arrest.
Pending medical test outcomes, the vessel, with over 1,700 individuals aboard, has implemented stringent sanitation measures. The incident highlights the ongoing risk of gastrointestinal illnesses on cruise trips, as noted by health organizations.
