Ebola Emergency Declared in DRC and Uganda
The WHO has declared an Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda a 'public health emergency of international concern.' The outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus, has resulted in 80 suspected deaths and eight laboratory-confirmed cases. The situation does not yet qualify as a pandemic emergency.
The World Health Organization on Sunday classified an Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda as a 'public health emergency of international concern.'
The outbreak, which is caused by the Bundibugyo virus, doesn't currently meet the criteria for a pandemic emergency, according to the WHO.
As of Saturday, there have been 80 suspected deaths, eight laboratory-confirmed cases, and 246 suspected cases reported in DRC's Ituri province. Additionally, cases were reported in Uganda and the DRC capital, Kinshasa, from travelers returning from affected areas.
