Siblings from Delhi received heart transplants at the same hospital 11 years apart due to a rare genetic heart condition. Both brothers were diagnosed with advanced Dilated Cardiomyopathy, which requires surgical intervention as it hinders the heart's ability to pump blood.

The younger brother recently underwent the procedure at Fortis Escorts, Okhla, following symptoms of severe heart failure. In 2015, his elder brother had experienced similar symptoms and was the first to undergo the procedure. The hospital faced technical challenges during the transplant due to differences in blood vessel sizes of the donor and recipient.

The donor in the recent operation was a 37-year-old man from Rohtak who passed away from an intracranial hemorrhage. Fortis Escorts remains proactive, advising genetic screening for family members following the diagnosis of the younger sibling.

Medical professionals highlighted this case as the first in India where familial cardiomyopathy led to successful heart transplants for two brothers at the same facility. This underlines the importance of recognizing genetic factors in heart disease for effective treatment strategies.
