Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has taken steps to address rising concerns over the potential spread of Ebola from Central Africa to Europe. She has reached out to European Union leaders, emphasizing the need for reinforced border monitoring in light of recent developments.

The current epidemiological situation in Central Africa, specifically the Bundibugyo Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, is of particular concern to Italy. The Italian government stresses that these issues require immediate and coordinated attention from the EU.

To address these challenges, Meloni has advocated for the inclusion of border management discussions in the upcoming EU summit in June. Additionally, she has requested a videoconference meeting between EU health ministers to further deliberate on the matter next week.
