Nipah outbreak: Second isolation ward opened in Kochi as scare persists in Kerala

A second isolation ward has been opened at Ernakulam Government Medical College Hospital a day after all seven persons admitted to the isolation ward tested negative for Nipah. The new ward has a capacity to accommodate 30 patients has been opened in the hospital.

The new isolation ward is being catered to by Specially trained teams. The teams deployed at the new isolation ward include 70 doctors, 102 paramedical staff and 30 attendees.

The administration has also kept a team on standby. Arrangements have also been put in place for the scientific disposal of biomedical waste.

The government had announced that samples of seven people, including three nursing staff, who had initially attended a college student infected with Nipah virus, had tested negative.

The health of the college student, who is diagnosed with Nipah virus, has improved, the government said here Thursday evening.
