Democratic leaders have called on President Joe Biden to provide compelling evidence of his path to reelection after his underwhelming debate performance and disappointing polling in critical battleground states, as reported by the Washington Post. Concerns over Biden's ability to defeat former President Donald Trump in the upcoming elections are mounting within the Democratic Party.

In the aftermath of the June 28 CNN debate with Trump, leaders are pushing Biden to reconsider his candidacy. Despite this pressure, Biden announced his intention to remain in the race, expressing confidence in his ability to defeat Trump. In a letter to congressional Democrats dated July 9, Biden reaffirmed his commitment to the campaign, despite growing concerns about his mental fitness.

Biden also emphasized his intent to stay in the race until the end of the November election, reiterating the importance of party unity. He urged Democrats to unite, stating, "Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us." On July 8, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries held a leadership call where several top House Democrats urged Biden to step aside, expressing concerns about his impact on the party's prospects in 2024.
