A fatal shooting disrupted former US President Donald Trump's rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, resulting in the death of one attendee and injuries to several others. Among the injured was Trump himself, who suffered an ear injury. According to Butler County District Attorney Richard Goldinger, the shooter was killed by the Secret Service.
CNN reported that Trump, who appeared with an ear injury, will recover and was swiftly escorted by the US Secret Service. Another spectator remains in serious condition, as confirmed by the district attorney.
Just months ahead of the 2024 presidential elections, the incident led to a chaotic scene at the rally. CBS News reported that Trump was immediately whisked off stage by Secret Service agents, who transported him via motorcade.
Viral social media videos showed Trump bleeding from his ear, although there was no official confirmation of the injury's specifics. Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi stated that comprehensive protective measures were in place and the incident is under active investigation.
Guglielmi affirmed Trump's safety and mentioned that further updates will be provided as new information emerges. "An incident occurred the evening of July 13 at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania. The Secret Service has implemented protective measures and the former President is safe," he noted in a post on X.
He added, "This is now an active Secret Service investigation and further information will be released when available."
