All Indian nationals in Bangladesh are safe, with New Delhi maintaining close contact with officials on-site and monitoring the situation, according to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). The assurance comes amid ongoing violent protests in the neighbouring country. An advisory has been issued for Indian nationals, with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar personally overseeing the developments.
“As you are aware, there are protests ongoing in Bangladesh. We have around 8,500 students and approximately 15,000 Indian nationals residing in the country,” stated MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during the weekly press briefing on Friday. He confirmed that the MEA will provide regular updates on the situation and urged family members of Indian nationals to maintain contact with the Indian High Commission in Bangladesh.
Jaiswal emphasized, “We have issued a travel advisory for people to stay in touch with the High Commission for any required assistance. The External Affairs Minister is monitoring the situation, and the High Commission will provide regular updates. We remain committed to offering all possible assistance to our nationals.” Protests have intensified in Bangladesh against the controversial government job quota system, resulting in several deaths and hundreds of injuries. Authorities have even restricted internet and mobile services as the turmoil continues.
