UAE Advocates for Sudan Peace at Djibouti Mediators Retreat
Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, the UAE Minister of State, participated in a planning retreat in Djibouti aimed at establishing peace in Sudan. He emphasized immediate cessation of violence and the need for intensified humanitarian efforts. The UAE has provided $245 million in aid since the conflict began in April 2023.

In a significant diplomatic effort, Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of State, attended the Mediators Planning Retreat on Sudan in Djibouti. The event saw participation from 32 countries along with various regional and international organizations. Key discussions revolved around global initiatives focused on achieving peace in the crisis-stricken Sudan and forging a united vision.
Sheikh Shakhboot's address during the opening ceremony underscored the urgency of halting violence and ensuring humanitarian aid delivery. He called for intensifying both regional and international efforts to find effective solutions that would help Sudan navigate through its prevailing challenges.
The UAE Minister of State highlighted the dire situation facing the Sudanese people, marked by a growing humanitarian catastrophe and the looming threat of famine. He urged the international community to ramp up diplomatic and humanitarian actions to resolve the conflict and said that urgent, coordinated responses are essential to meet Sudan's pressing needs.
Sheikh Shakhboot also pointed out the UAE’s proactive measures in alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and its neighbors. Since the conflict erupted in April 2023, the UAE has contributed USD 245 million in aid and established two field hospitals in Chad to support displaced Sudanese and mitigate the influx of refugees into neighboring regions.
Affirming UAE's support for initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and ending the crisis, Sheikh Shakhboot stressed the importance of achieving a consensual political process. He reiterated UAE’s call for an immediate ceasefire, stating that a peaceful solution through dialogue is crucial as military interventions will not resolve the conflict.
