Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskyy on Tuesday reported that over 180 people were injured and 41 people died following a Russian attack on the city of Poltava. In a social media post, Zelenskyy detailed that the strike targeted an educational institution and a nearby hospital, causing partial destruction of a telecommunications institute's building.

Zelenskyy stated, 'I received preliminary reports on the Russian strike in Poltava. According to available information, two ballistic missiles hit the area.' He expressed his heartfelt condolences, noting, 'Many were trapped under the rubble. While numerous individuals were rescued, unfortunately, more than 180 were injured and 41 have lost their lives. My deepest condolences to their families.'

Calling for a thorough investigation, Zelenskyy thanked those aiding rescue efforts. 'I ordered a full and prompt investigation into the circumstances of this tragedy. All necessary services are involved in the rescue operation. I am grateful to everyone who has been helping and saving lives since the strike,' he said.

Emphasizing the urgent need for air defense, Zelenskyy added, 'The Russian perpetrators will surely pay for this strike. We continue to urge global powers to provide Ukraine with air defense systems and missiles now, not later. Delays result in more lost lives. Eternal memory to all those whose lives were tragically taken by Russia.'

The devastating attack, one of the deadliest since the conflict began on February 24, 2022, highlights the escalating violence and growing humanitarian crisis in the region. Final details of the attack await confirmation from Russian authorities. (ANI)
