Arun Goel Appointed as India's New Ambassador to Croatia

The Government of India has appointed Arun Goel as the next Ambassador to the Republic of Croatia. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed the news, stating that Goel will assume his new post shortly.
Goel, a retired IAS officer from the Punjab Cadre (1985 batch), holds a postgraduate degree in Development Economics from Churchill College, University of Cambridge. His notable career includes his recent role as the Election Commissioner of India, starting November 21, 2022.
Previously, he served as Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries (2020-2022) and in the Ministry of Culture (2018-2019). Diplomatic ties between India and Croatia were formalized on July 9, 1992, with both countries establishing missions in New Delhi and Zagreb soon after.
High-level visits have marked the bilateral relationship, including the visit of then-President Stjepan Mesic of Croatia to India in 2002 and a visit by Croatian Deputy Prime Minister Marija Pejcinovic Buric in 2018.
