Ratan Tata, the influential Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, has been posthumously honored with honorary citizenship by Singapore, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced on Thursday. Tata, who passed away at 86, is celebrated for his transformative influence on industry and remembered as a 'remarkable person.'

Speaking from Vientiane, Laos, at an ASEAN summit, Jaishankar noted the historic connection between Singapore and Tata, recalling his close professional relationship with the industrial titan. Tata's passing, he emphasized, is felt as a profound national loss, one that resonates deeply across India and beyond.

Ratan Tata's legacy is enshrined in his work as Chairman of Tata Sons from 1991 to 2012 and his post-retirement role as Chairman Emeritus. His contributions earned him the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. The impact of his leadership style and forward-thinking approach endures, as people gather on NCPA lawns to pay their respects.
