The Indian Army has embarked on a journey to Japan for the sixth edition of the India-Japan Joint Military Exercise, Dharma Guardian. Slated to take place from February 24 to March 9, 2025, in the East Fuji Manoeuvre Training Area, this annual event alternates between India and Japan.
This year, a 120-personnel Indian contingent, primarily from the MADRAS Regiment, will engage in joint urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations with Japan’s Ground Self Defence Force, represented by the 34th Infantry Regiment. The Ministry of Defence states that the aim is to enhance tactical interoperability and joint planning under a UN mandate.
Exercise Dharma Guardian builds on the visit by India’s Chief of the Army Staff to Japan in October 2024, further bolstering defense cooperation. Both nations share a commitment to regional peace, highlighting Indo-Pacific security and fostering military camaraderie and cultural understanding.
