The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Pakistan-Occupied Gilgit-Baltistan (PoGB) Council, Muhammad Ayub Shah, has called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to urgently intervene in the ongoing protests related to the Diamer-Bhasha Dam project, as reported by Pamir Times.

Residents, under the 'Haqooq Do, Dam Banao Tehreek' banner, have entered the twelfth day of protests, demanding proper compensation, fair resettlement, and job security. Despite discussions with federal authorities, the issue remains unresolved, heightening tensions within the community. The report highlights that Shah urged PM Sharif to direct relevant authorities, including the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), to engage with stakeholders and address their grievances effectively.

Shah emphasized that the rights and dignity of the PoGB residents, who have significantly contributed to Pakistan's progress, must be safeguarded. The protesters assert they will not halt their demonstrations until their demands are met. Political underrepresentation and economic neglect further compound their marginalization, as highlighted by their history of protests aiming for justice, equality, and improved conditions.
