Dr. Rabbi Alam, Vice President of the United States Awami League, expressed grave concerns about the ongoing security crisis in Bangladesh, calling for international intervention. Speaking in Kolkata, he applauded the Indian government for providing shelter and safe passage to ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The political landscape in Bangladesh further deteriorated as a Dhaka court ordered the seizure of properties belonging to Sheikh Hasina and her family. The assets, including bank accounts, were seized by an order from Judge Zakir Hossain Ghalib, in connection with corruption charges filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.
The situation has strained Bangladesh-India diplomatic relations, following accusations from Bangladesh's Foreign Ministry against Hasina for allegedly making inflammatory statements while in India. Meanwhile, an arrest warrant was issued against Hasina by the International Crimes Tribunal, as unrest continues to unfold in the wake of her government's overthrow by a student-led movement.
