Celtics G Smart fined $35K following ejection

The NBA fined Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart $35,000 on Monday for his actions during Saturday night's victory in Atlanta. Smart did not receive a suspension and will be available for Boston's game against the Miami Heat on Monday.

Smart "aggressively" pursued Hawks forward DeAndre' Bembry "in an attempt to escalate a physical altercation" and failed to leave the court in a timely manner after his ejection, the league said in a statement issued by Kiki VanDeWeghe, the NBA's executive vice president of basketball operations. The incident occurred with 7:35 remaining in the third quarter of Boston's 113-105 win.

Smart was assessed a technical foul -- his second of the game -- while exchanging words with Bembry as the players lined up for a jump ball. Instead of leaving the court, he attempted to charge Bembry before being restrained by teammates and officials. --Field Level Media
