Miami F Jones to miss at least six weeks

Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr. will miss at least six weeks after an MRI exam revealed two bone bruises in his right knee, the team announced Monday. The 21-year-old forward was injured during Sunday's victory over the New York Knicks. He took an awkward step as he was fouled while driving to the basket, tossed the ball away and fell to the floor.

X-rays taken Sunday in New York were negative. Heat coach Erik Spoelstra was deeply concerned after Sunday's game.

"It was scary. My stomach dropped," Spoelstra told reporters. "But he's smiling and joking in there. He's damn near a teenager, so hopefully he'll heal much differently than we would." Jones, a third-year pro out of UNLV, has averaged 7.4 points and 4.4 rebounds in 37 games (five starts) this season.
