In a tragic incident early Monday morning, a cargo plane crash at Hong Kong International Airport claimed two lives, according to local reports. Emirates flight EK9788, arriving from Dubai, veered off the runway upon landing, colliding with an airport patrol vehicle before partially landing in the sea.

The Hong Kong Free Press cited police reports indicating that a member of the ground patrol vehicle staff died on site, while another succumbed to injuries later at North Lantau Hospital. Fortunately, the four crew members aboard the Emirates SkyCargo Flight escaped unscathed, police confirmed.

This unfortunate event led to the temporary closure of the airport's north runway and the cancellation of at least 11 cargo flights scheduled for arrival. Emirates clarified that the aircraft was operated by Turkish operator Act Airlines and had no cargo on board. The Hong Kong Civil Aviation Department has launched an investigation to determine the cause of the mishap.
