US President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns over Russia's recent testing of a nuclear-powered missile, asserting that America's presence with nuclear submarines near Russia is unmatched. This comes in response to Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of a cruise missile powered by a novel nuclear unit.
The missile's development follows the US's 2001 exit from the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, a move that prompted Moscow to fortify its military capabilities. According to Putin, the Burevestnik missile, boasting a prolonged range and unpredictable trajectory, remains unmatched globally. Russian officials claim the missile successfully sustained flight for 15 hours, covering 14,000 kilometers.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump retorted, "They know we have the greatest nuclear submarine off their shore," emphasizing the US's readiness. He admonished Putin, noting the ongoing Russian-Ukraine conflict, urging the Russian leader to prioritize peace over further missile tests. Meanwhile, the US and EU have recently imposed additional sanctions on Russia's major oil firms in response to ongoing geopolitical tensions.
