In a decisive move against terrorism funding, the United Kingdom has enacted its first sanctions against the Pro-Khalistan terror group Babbar Khalsa. The action includes an asset freeze for Babbar Khalsa and individuals connected to its operations, notably targeting Gurpreet Singh Rehal, suspected of being part of terrorist activities in India.
The UK Treasury Department revealed that Rehal is at the heart of Babbar Khalsa and Babbar Akali Lehar's operations, facilitating recruitment and financial services for these entities, which have been implicated in promoting and supporting terrorism, such as purchasing weapons.
Furthermore, all UK-based assets linked to Rehal or Babbar Akali Lehar face stringent freezes, accompanied by director disqualification sanctions against Rehal, barring him from business leadership roles. Economic Secretary to the Treasury Lucy Rigby emphasized Britain's zero tolerance for the exploitation of its financial systems, reinforcing the country's resolve against terrorism and violence.
