External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar recently highlighted the significance of traditions, languages, music, and craftsmanship as democratic expressions of culture. Speaking at the inception of UNESCO's major gathering at the Red Fort, he stressed the universal ownership and protection of these intangible heritages.

The event marked the 20th session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage, hosted by India for the first time. The gathering, held from December 8 to 13, saw participation from dignitaries, including Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany.

The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, served as a fitting backdrop as delegates discussed cultural preservation. Jaishankar reiterated India's commitment to protecting traditions and languages, while UNESCO reviewed and supported international safeguarding initiatives.
