The Ministry of External Affairs issued a strong rebuttal on Thursday against media reports suggesting a meeting between National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The allegations, which stemmed from a Bloomberg report, were categorically dismissed as unfounded by MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal during a briefing in the national capital.
Jaiswal clarified that there was no such visit by NSA Doval to the United States last September to improve ties between New Delhi and Washington. The reports have been labeled as baseless, with the ministry emphasizing that no meetings took place between Doval and Rubio.
Meanwhile, discussions on the India-US trade deal garnered positive remarks. Spokesperson Jaiswal highlighted a constructive exchange between PM Narendra Modi and former US President Donald Trump, noting a significant reduction in reciprocal tariffs. This development is expected to enhance India's exports, boost labor-intensive industries, and generate jobs.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also contributed to the optimistic outlook following his recent visit to Washington. During his meetings with US officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Jaishankar described the interactions as 'productive and positive.' He expressed confidence that the historic trade deal was nearing completion, forecasting enhanced bilateral relations and increased cooperation in critical areas.
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor, echoed these feelings, stating that the discussions signified 'limitless potential' for the future, with anticipation of progress in strategic, defense, and energy sectors in the coming days.
