During the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), urgent issues affecting India's desert communities and cross-border asylum seekers were thrust into the spotlight. Representatives from the Sambhali Trust advocated for the displaced and marginalized, focusing on dignity and grassroots empowerment initiatives.

Govind Singh Rathore, founder of the Sambhali Trust, underscored the organization's dedication to supporting women, children, and gender minorities through vocational training and educational programs. This effort, established in 2007 and recognized with UN ECOSOC consultative status in 2015, extends from Rajasthan to global forums.

Rathore addressed the plight of asylum seekers arriving in Jaisalmer from Pakistan. Families endure dangerous treks across the Thar Desert for safety and dignity. Despite hardships, many express that the peace found in India surpasses the difficulties left behind. In Geneva, the Trust amplifies these stories with a photo exhibition, 'Desert Daughters of India,' and a book launch event.

Tasha Mauricette Stoppler, Trust volunteer, emphasized addressing minority rights globally. The Trust's grassroots approach in Rajasthan caters to marginalized women and children, providing tailored support beyond mere acknowledgment. Stoppler also noted the value of international platforms like the UNHRC in spotlighting gender minorities and vulnerable groups.

Sambhali Trust's participation in the UNHRC seeks to connect local realities with global advocacy, calling on the international community to recognize the resilience and aspirations of those yearning for safer, dignified futures.
