Oilers trade C Spooner to Canucks for C Gagner

Ryan Spooner was on the move again Saturday, traded from the Edmonton Oilers to the Vancouver Canucks for fellow center Sam Gagner. Spooner, 27, began the season with the New York Rangers and was traded to the Oilers on Nov. 16 for center Ryan Strome.

Spooner tallied one goal and one assist in 16 games with New York and added two goals and an assist in 25 games with Edmonton. A second-round pick by Boston in 2010, Spooner spent his first five-plus seasons with the Bruins. He has 163 points in 314 career games, with 48 goals and 115 assists.

Gagner, 29, has spent most of this season on loan to Toronto of the AHL. He had one goal and a pair of assists in seven games with Vancouver. The No. 6 overall pick by Edmonton in the 2007 draft, Gagner has tallied 436 career points (153 goals and 283 assists) in 777 games.

In his first stint with the Oilers (2007-14), Gagner had 101 goals and 194 assists (295 points) in 481 games. He also has played for Arizona Coyotes (2014-15), Philadelphia Flyers (2015-16), Columbus Blue Jackets (2016-17) and Canucks (2017-19).
