Ducks to retire Niedermayer's No. 27 on Sunday

Scott Niedermayer is set to become the ninth NHL player to have his number retired by two different teams when the Anaheim Ducks hoist his No. 27 to the rafters before Sunday's game against the Washington Capitals. Niedermayer, who was the captain on the Ducks' 2007 championship team, also had his number retired by the New Jersey Devils in 2011.

"Even though I do have experience, it still feels overwhelming and it will be a tremendous honor," Niedermayer said, per NHL.com. "It's obviously something that doesn't happen every day and for the team in Anaheim to feel that during my time there my contribution warranted some sort of recognition like this means a lot. ... I'm still humbled from the honor, for sure."

Teemu Selanne (No. 8) and Paul Kariya (No. 9) are the only other Ducks to have their numbers retired. Niedermayer, 45, spent his first 13 seasons with the Devils before joining the Ducks for the final five seasons of his career. He currently works in player development with the Ducks.

In addition to Niedermayer's 2007 title with Anaheim, he won three Stanley Cup titles with New Jersey. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 2013.
