Quad Ministers Pledge Deepened Indo-Pacific Cooperation at New Delhi Summit
At the Quad Foreign Ministers' meeting in New Delhi, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi emphasized the platform's role in advancing Indo-Pacific cooperation. Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration in maritime security, economic resilience, and addressing regional security concerns, with ministers expressing optimism for continued progress.
Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi underscored the importance of the Quad as a pivotal platform for advancing cooperation within the Indo-Pacific region. Speaking at the Quad Foreign Ministers' Meet in New Delhi, he expressed confidence that the discussions would bolster collaboration among partner countries. Motegi stated, "This Quad meeting delivers a strong message to the world that Quad is committed to promoting cooperation to achieve a free and open Indo-Pacific."
Motegi emphasized the need for Indo-Pacific nations to improve their resilience and economic security. He called for strengthening the capacity to determine their own future, including economic security, and encouraged frank discussions to speed up Quad collaboration. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the need to enhance collaborations to boost supply chain resilience, connectivity, and critical infrastructure.
Jaishankar also urged the enhancement of strategic confidence and maritime security, alongside promoting trusted partnerships to address Indo-Pacific concerns. He noted significant collaboration progress on core priorities such as maritime security and economic resilience. The meeting, attended by Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi, and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, continued the dialogue from their last gathering in Washington, D.C. Discussions aimed at reinforcing a free and open Indo-Pacific alongside evaluating critical technology and infrastructure issues.
