The High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka inaugurated an exhibition on India's Buddhist heritage during the 2026 Vesak Festival in Matara, alongside Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. The event highlights India's cultural ties with Sri Lanka through photographs of historical Buddhist sites and ongoing collaborative projects.
During the National Vesak Festival 2026 in Matara, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, alongside Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, unveiled an exhibition focused on the 'Buddhist Heritage of India'. In a statement shared on the platform X, Jha expressed his honor at inaugurating the showcase.
The exhibition was collaboratively organized by the High Commission of India and the Consulate General of India in Hambantota, in partnership with Midellawela Purana Viharaya. It aims to celebrate and illuminate the spiritual and cultural connections between India and Sri Lanka, featuring photographs of notable Buddhist sites across India.
As part of broader efforts to fortify the shared Buddhist heritage, the exhibition, open to the public from May 27 to June 2, 2026, chronicles the life of Lord Buddha and showcases UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Through initiatives like past sacred relic expositions and a 2020 grant for Buddhist linkages, India continues to reinforce these historical ties.
