Assam's Strategic Encounter: EU Delegation Fuels Trade and Industry Growth
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the EU delegation led by Ambassador Herve Delphin discussed enhancing India-EU trade. A visit promotes economic ties, focusing on sectors like green energy, healthcare, and semiconductors. The tour highlights the launch of Assam's 'Blue Valley Cluster' for industrial collaboration.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma engaged in pivotal discussions with 'Team Europe,' a high-ranking delegation from the European Union, led by EU Ambassador to India, Herve Delphin. The diplomatic mission, which landed in the state capital on June 8, is focused on strengthening trade and investment ties between European markets and Northeast India.
The EU delegation, comprising ambassadors and senior diplomats from various member states, along with key European corporate leaders, aims to boost bilateral relations under the 'India-EU Comprehensive Strategic Agenda.' This initiative seeks to leverage the region's strategic importance, natural resources, and burgeoning industrial landscape.
As part of their agenda, delegates plan to visit Assam's first semiconductor manufacturing facility at Jagiroad in Morigaon district. The visit intends to foster new arenas of cooperation across sectors like eco-friendly infrastructure, healthcare, and electronics, engaging with regional authorities for potential collaborations.
A commercial group, organized by the Federation of European Businesses in India (FEBI), is simultaneously exploring opportunities in these sectors. The discussions are complemented by a specialized seminar titled 'Blue Valleys: Building Ecosystems and Value Chains Between India and Europe,' aimed at enhancing supply-chain logistics and fostering cross-continental business synergies.
A key highlight of the EU mission is the inauguration of Assam’s 'Blue Valley Cluster,' an industrial hub focused on developing industries related to flavors, fragrances, and AYUSH products. Designed as a public-private-people partnership, this initiative aims to strengthen commercial and academic connections between European markets, Northeast India, and Bhutan.
This cluster is part of the broader 'Blue Valleys' strategy, conceived during the 2026 EU-India Summit, which emphasizes sustainable industrial development and the growth of market channels, aiming to support small businesses and foster environmental conservation.
