India Protests US Naval Actions: Maritime Tensions Rise in Gulf of Oman
India summoned the US Charge d'Affaires, lodging a strong protest over repeated US naval attacks on commercial vessels with Indian crew in the Gulf of Oman, resulting in fatalities. India demands accountability and preventive measures, marking heightened tensions and calling for maritime safety amid regional instability.
Diplomatic tensions surged as India on Friday summoned the United States Charge d'Affaires, Jason Meeks, to express a strong protest. The protest arose in response to subsequent attacks by US naval forces on commercial vessels bearing Indian mariners in the Gulf of Oman, tragically resulting in the deaths of three Indian nationals, according to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The MEA issued a statement emphasizing India's serious concerns over these incidents. It underscored the unacceptable nature of using lethal force against civilian shipping, which endangers maritime safety and regional stability. India has called for immediate measures by the United States to ensure the safety of civilian vessels and avert further casualties.
This development follows another incident on Thursday when a US naval attack targeted a vessel carrying 20 Indian crew members, marking the escalation of maritime security issues. The US Central Command confirmed targeting vessels suspected of violating the US-imposed blockade against Iran, citing these strikes as necessary enforcement actions.
