Dr Yvan Hutin Assumes Role as WHO India Representative
Dr Yvan J-F. Hutin, with over three decades in global health, has taken charge as the WHO Representative to India. Prior to this, he led the Antimicrobial Resistance Department at WHO, focusing on combating AMR globally. He has also worked across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
Dr Yvan J-F. Hutin officially presented his credentials to Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs, as the new World Health Organization (WHO) representative to India. His appointment signifies a continued strengthening of WHO's initiatives in the country.
In a tweet, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced Dr Hutin's presentation of credentials, emphasizing Secretary George's well-wishes for his tenure. Dr Hutin took office in May 2026, bringing extensive expertise to his new role.
Prior to his appointment in India, Dr Hutin led the WHO's Antimicrobial Resistance Department, addressing the critical issue of global antimicrobial resistance. His three decades in public health include roles in clinical medicine, epidemiology, and health leadership, alongside international postings across Africa, Europe, and Asia.
