Report: Sixers C Embiid to return Sunday

Center Joel Embiid, who has missed the past eight games with left knee soreness, will play Sunday when the Philadelphia 76ers host the Indiana Pacers, ESPN's Ramona Shelburne reported. In his absence, the Sixers have gone 4-4 and lost two straight.

The team did not confirm the report, and earlier this week, coach Brett Brown said he wouldn't put a timeline on Embiid's return. Despite the knee issue, Embiid played in the All-Star Game on Feb. 17 and scored 10 points in 23 minutes.

Entering Sunday's game, the Sixers are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, a game behind the Pacers. Embiid, who will turn 25 on Saturday, has played in 54 games this season and is averaging 27.3 points, 13.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists.
