The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed has arrived in Sudan's capital, Khartoum on June 7. He was said to be meeting the chief of Sudan's ruling military council and civilian representatives.

The Ethiopian leader has reached Sudan within days of deadliest confrontation between the military and protestors since the ouster of President Omar al-Bashir last month. The 42-year old leader, who has recently been awarded Félix Houphouët-Boigny Prize for Peace by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for his commendable work in pursuit of peace, is expected to focus on the conversation of bringing peace in Sudan.

He was expected to hold separate talks with Gen Adel Fattah Al Burhan, and with leaders of the Forces for the Declaration of Freedom and Change, a coalition of protest groups and political parties. Details on their conversations are yet to be revealed.

On Monday, Sudanese security forces launched a deadly crackdown on a weeklong sit-in outside army headquarters in which more than 100 people were killed, according to the protest movement. However, the officials have put the death toll at 61 nationwide.
