At least 25 people have been injured in an explosion in eastern Germany, according to the police.

News agency dpa quoted police spokesman Uwe Becker as saying that he couldn't rule out the number of people hurt in the explosion in Blankenburg, in the Harz mountains, being higher.

Regional public broadcaster MDR reported that the explosion happened Friday morning in a residential building. Further details weren't immediately available.
