Kerala: Murder accused found hanging inside jail

A 46-year-old accused, who was arrested for allegedly hacking to death his live-in-partner recently, was on Sunday found hanging inside the jail here, police said.

Pathanamthitta-native Rajesh, was arrested on December 15 for hacking to death his live-in-partner Sindhu (47) in broad daylight near Vazhayila here, they added.

''Officials found him hanging inside the bathroom of the jail here,'' a senior police official told PTI.

He was remanded by the court and jailed at Thiruvananthapuram District jail at Poojappura here.

An investigation is underway, officials said.

Sindhu was attacked with a sharp weapon and killed by Rajesh while she was standing near a shop, police had said.

Though the woman, who suffered critical injuries on her neck, head and hands, was rushed to the Government Medical College Hospital by police, she could not be saved.

Rajesh was living with Sindhu, a native of Vazhayila, for the last 12 years here after leaving his family in Pathanamthitta.

However, clashes broke out between the duo in the course of time and she had shifted to another house recently which was suspected to have led to the crime, a police officer had said.
