Italy's Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Tuesday said Rome was providing all efforts to unlock the stalemate over an International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan to Tunisia. "Italy is doing its best .... to try to break a stalemate that threatens to worsen the situation dramatically," Meloni told the upper-house Senate.
Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani previously told Reuters Rome wanted the IMF to unblock the $1.9 billion loan to Tunisia, fearful that without the cash the country would be destabilised, unleashing a new wave of migrants towards Europe.
