Israeli defence chief defers speech, says he briefed Netanyahu on security

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant confirmed media reports on Thursday that he had planned to deliver public remarks, but said he was deferring this because Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would be speaking at 8.40 pm (1840 GMT).

Summoned to a meeting with Netanyahu, Gallant briefed the prime minister on the impact the government's contested judicial overhaul was having on national security, according to a statement by the Defence Ministry. (Writing by Dan Williams Editing by Chris Reese)
