An FIR was registered against five employees, including an executive engineer, of the Uttar Pradesh power department over charges of financial irregularity on Thursday, police sources said. The suspension order of the five employees was sanctioned by Shambhu Nath, managing director, Purvanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited. A disciplinary inquiry has also been initiated in this regard, they said. According to the sources, executive engineer of Electricity Distribution Section II Ashish Kumar Aggarwal, accountant Rahul Kumar Yadav, office assistants Durgadatta and Abdul Marif, and draftsman Rajesh Kumar have been booked on the complaint of superintendent engineer S K Aggarwal at the Ballia City Kotwali police station.

''The case has been registered under IPC section 409 (criminal breach of trust by public servant),'' Rajeev Singh, SHO, Kotwali said. Sources added that the five employees caused serious financial loss to the discom by uploading forged forms on the ERP (enterprise resource planning) system, and making payments to certain agencies in violation of rules.
