The European Union aims to increase investments to strengthen its technological edge to 160 billion euros ($175 billion) partly by combining existing funds with new money and leveraging them, EU Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said on Tuesday.

"All in all we expect with leveraging and crowding in of private capital, this is crucial, this will result in an investment capacity of 160 billion euros," she said. ($1 = 0.9155 euros)
