Gutkha and other tobacco products worth Rs 57 lakh seized in Palghar district

One person was arrested and gutkha and other tobacco products worth Rs 57 lakh was seized in the neighbouring Palghar district, a police official said Monday.

Acting on a tip-off, a police team late Saturday night intercepted a vehicle on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway near Waliv in Palghar and made the arrest and seizure, said police spokesperson Hemant Katkar.

A case was registered at Waliv police station under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Food and Drug Administration Rules, he said.
