China warns Taiwan ruling party presidential candidate over possible confrontation

China's Taiwan Affairs Office said in a statement on Thursday it hopes the majority of Taiwanese recognise the 'extreme danger' of Taiwan's ruling party presidential candidate Lai Ching-te in possibly triggering a cross-strait confrontation.
Taiwan holds a pivotal presidential and parliamentary election on Saturday that is being closely watched internationally amid geopolitical tensions.
